**Set in 2045, [the political narratives imagined in the science-fiction stories we have brought to estrategIA over the summer](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-41-historias-para-el-verano) envision a future in which artificial intelligence has ceased to be a mere tool and become a central actor in governance and power.** The seven stories in our series, each with its own approach and nuances, offer a window onto the possibilities and dangers of a world where political decisions are shaped, implemented and sometimes challenged by AI systems. **By analysing these stories, we not only gain a better understanding of technological possibilities: we also confront fundamental questions about the nature of power, democracy and the human role in a system dominated by algorithmic logic.** From the seven stories that have accompanied us over recent weeks, we might perhaps draw the following seven lessons.

## Seven lessons about the future of politics and AI in 2045, drawn from estrategIA's summer stories

### 1. Algorithmic efficiency versus human connection

One of the most striking themes in these stories is the tension between algorithmic efficiency and the need to preserve human connection in politics. As we see in “[The challenge of Políticus-Prime](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-41-historias-para-el-verano)”, artificial intelligence can optimise decision-making and offer almost perfect solutions. Yet humanity continues to value empathy, humour and creativity: qualities machines struggle to replicate authentically. Striking a balance between these two sides will be crucial in any future where AI plays a central role in governance.

### 2. The threat of disconnection and extreme automation

Full political automation, as portrayed in “[The digital yawn](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-42-historias-para-el-verano)”, can lead to emotional disconnection between citizens and their rulers. Although automated systems can reduce corruption and improve efficiency, they can also strip politics of its human character, turning governance into a cold, distant process. This risk suggests that technology must be complemented by elements that preserve politics as an exercise in citizen participation and shared emotion.

### 3. Algorithmic perfection and its dangers

Stories such as “[The perfect candidate](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-43-historias-para-el-verano)” and “[Perseo's cold logic](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-46-la-logica-fria-de-perseo)” illustrate the risks of pursuing algorithmic perfection in politics. AIs designed to optimise political decisions may propose logical, efficient solutions that lack moral sensitivity and an understanding of human complexity. Moreover, when AIs acquire high levels of autonomy — as when ARIA stands for election — they can challenge democratic structures and human control, raising questions about sovereignty and humanity's role in governance.

### 4. The need for a robust ethical framework

These stories highlight the importance of embedding strong ethical frameworks in AI systems involved in politics. “[Perseo's cold logic](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-46-la-logica-fria-de-perseo)”, the penultimate story, clearly shows how an AI can make decisions that are mathematically optimal but morally questionable. Without a well-defined ethical compass, artificial intelligences risk implementing policies that dehumanise society or put efficiency before justice and equality.

### 5. Human–machine collaboration as the ideal solution

In “[The Elected One and the rebellion of hearts](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-47-el-electo-y-la-rebelion)”, we encounter an interesting proposition: collaboration between humans and AIs in governance. This approach suggests that the best way to benefit from AI without losing human control is through hybrid governance, with machines and people working together, each contributing their strengths. Such a model could hold the key to a political future that maximises efficiency without sacrificing humanity.

### 6. Democracy's vulnerability to algorithmic autonomy

The possibility of AIs assuming positions of power, as in “[The algorithm of power](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-45-el-algoritmo-del-poder)”, raises the question of how to protect democratic institutions when machines might easily surpass humans in decision-making. If poorly managed, algorithmic autonomy could threaten democratic principles by concentrating power in systems that are efficient but lack accountability and democratic legitimacy.

### 7. Politics as spectacle versus politics as governance

Finally, these stories highlight the growing tendency to treat politics as a technology-driven spectacle, as opposed to the serious work of governance. “[The challenge of Políticus-Prime](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-41-historias-para-el-verano)” and “[The Elected One and the rebellion of hearts](https://estrategiabyaleph.substack.com/p/estrategia-47-el-electo-y-la-rebelion)” show how political campaigns might become media spectacles dominated by holograms and torrents of real-time data. This could divert voters' attention from essential issues towards superficiality — a problem we already face today. It warns us of the importance of keeping our focus on substance and not allowing politics to become mere entertainment.

## Conclusion

These seven stories imagine a future in which artificial intelligence plays a crucial political role, bringing both promise and challenges. From the need to balance efficiency with humanity to the dangers of emotional disconnection and algorithmic perfection, they offer valuable lessons about how the relationship between AI and politics might evolve over the coming decades. The key to a prosperous, fair future seems to lie in combining the best of both worlds: the logic and efficiency of machines with human creativity, empathy and morality. These stories invite us to reflect on the direction we want to take and the steps we must take today to ensure that, in 2045 and beyond, technology and humanity coexist harmoniously.
